Can a Greasy & Grimey breakfast house floor be recoated?

Sometimes, there is just not enough wood left in a floor for sanding! So is the case with this well worn, rutted, 100 year old, fir cafe floor. Removing the floor and reinstalling a new one would blow the budget. Other companies didn’t have alternative solutions.

Problem: How can I recoat a maple syrup covered, bacon grease and every other food residue coated floor?

Solution: I came up with a new technique. Allowing a color restain and finish recoat with no bonding issues!

Freshen up the floor surface with a recoat!

A recoat of wood flooring runs about a 1/3 the cost of refinishing the floor. If the existing finish on your floor is loosing its shine (but has not worn through to the bare wood) we generally can add another coat to extend the life of the floor. An onsite inspection can verify a floor candidate.

For the floor in this picture, I used the following are steps:

  • wet sanding with a mild degreaser
  • a hot water wash of the degreaser
  • thorough cleaning
  • apply top coating
